The language of severe mental illness:
On this site, I will be using words and terms which may be familiar to anyone who has ever had concerns about mental illness and psychiatric disorders. If you come in for treatment, there is a good chance we will be using some different words to describe mental illness. This is because many solutions can be found when we begin to look at the problem differently. Words are a reflection of how we think. In no way, however will I attempt to deny the possibilty that some of the most life disrupting problems are in fact biologically based disorders of the brain. The mind and the body are related. Some mental illnesses and psychiatric disorders may best be treated with medical interventions, but some may not, and for some, the best treatment is a time spent with mental health and medical professionals.
